Who are the developers of Tobago Plantations?

Tobago Plantations Ltd is the developer of the 750-acre community resort at Lowlands Tobago.


Who are the Main Shareholders?

Tobago Plantations Limited is jointly owned by Guardian Holdings Ltd and Angostura Ltd – two of Trinidad & Tobago’s largest and most reputable companies.

Guardian Holdings Ltd is the holding company of several businesses with a variety of investment activities and real estate development. A major part of the Group is Guardian Life of the Caribbean Limited which is a publicly traded corporation in Trinidad & Tobago and a leading company in the field of life insurance whose principal activities are the underwriting of all classes of long - term insurance business.

Angostura Limited is a publicly traded corporation in Trinidad & Tobago. Founded in 1824 by Dr. Siegert, a German medical surgeon and entrepreneur who chose the West Indies as his home, the Company is known internationally as the manufacturer of the world famous Angostura aromatic bitters. It is also one of the largest rum producing companies in the Commonwealth Caribbean, exporting bulk and cased rum to many foreign markets.


What is the concept of the Tobago Plantations Development?

Tobago Plantations is a unique, master planned community resort offering a wide and attractive range of amenities and quality services in harmony with the natural and social environments, as well as a variety of quality housing products with good value and beautiful designs.

The master plan envisions a first class eco tourist paradise resort emphasizing design elements which preserve the local and cultural heritage of the island, with development components which preserve and enhance the natural environment, and which has the potential to generate employment opportunities.

The plan is very much in line with the Government's vision of expanded tourism development in Trinidad and Tobago.


When did the resort open?

Based on a projected eight to ten years to final build out, the resort will be opened in stages/phases. The 200-Room flagship Hilton Tobago which started construction in January 1998 had its soft opening in July 2000 and was officially opened in November 2000.

Individually owned villas are being handed over on a completion basis. 9 of the first 20 currently under construction have been handed over to owners, some of whom live on site. The second 20 villas are due to commence construction shortly. Of the 58, there are 18 Villa lots available for sale.

74 Condominiums in 37 buildings, comprising 37 two and 37 three bedroom units will be handed over to owners shortly. There are four, 2 bedroom units available for sale.

Construction of another villa cluster is scheduled to begin shortly. Of 50 units there are 38 sold as single storey 2 bedroom units, 2-bedroom ground floor or first floor units and 3-bedroom 2-storey units. Single storey and ground floor units come with a plunge pool and first floor units a Jacuzzi.


What facilities will be available at Tobago Plantations?

Tobago Plantations offers a unique combination of natural and built amenities, and is on the forefront of ecologically sensitive developments not only in the Caribbean, but also in the world.

Along the 2.5 miles of coastline, this eco resort paradise will offer nature trails, and canopy walks through the virgin mangrove forest. Walking, hiking, and jogging trails will be provided. The eco tourist will also enjoy guided nature and agricultural tours, as well as educational seminars on the island's flora and fauna. A bird sanctuary will provide another enjoyable and interesting experience.

Tobago Plantations’ natural resources, rich in flora and fauna are naturally suited to the eco/soft adventure tourism. It has the biggest teak orchard in Tobago and the placid 90-acre Petit Trou Lagoon is home and breeding ground for migratory wild ducks from South America. The resort has over 60 acres of virgin mangrove forest that will remain untouched. These tropical wetlands or mangroves are richly bio-diversified, supporting many species of aquatic animals, birds, and reptiles. Tobago Plantations also has an unspoilt marine environment, which it will safeguard and preserve.
